Sharp has unveiled a 26 inch LCD that cuts power usage by two thirds.

The green version of the LC-26GH3 isn’t being shipped to retailers yet. Power levels are estimated at 40W and 60kWh.

As research continues, power consumption is forecast to drop to levels where the LCD TV can be powered by a solar battery.

Sharp’s green TV was demoed at a Japanese Government environmental display staged at the G8 Summit.

How to pick the best size LCD… you would think it’s simple. Bigger is better. Buy as much as you can afford.

The best tool: your eyes. It isn’t always to use this though when in the store. So before you shop, know how far away from the screen you’ll be when you’re watching.

Here is a good way to measure a minimum viewing distance.
For a 720p resolution screen, divide the distance from the screen to where you’ll watching from, using inches, by 2.5. For 1080p sets, divide the distance by 1.5.

For instance, for a 1080p screen, if you’ll be 8 feet away you’ll want a 64 inch LCD, and if you’re 6 feet away, a 48 inch screen.

The LCD TVs are weatherproof, come in five different sizes, and will be introduced at the InfoComm trade show later this month.

Pantel manufactures the LCDs. Right now it has 32 and 42 inch models on the market.

The 65 inch screen, the PAN 600, has a price tag of $25,999.

Specs: 2,000:1 contrast ratios and 1,920 by 1080p native resolution. The 20-inch model, which retails for $2,999, delivers a 700:1 contrast ratio and 1,366 by 768 native.

Screens are glare resistant, anti-reflexive, and resistant to extreme temperatures. They’re also 802.11a wireless enabled.

The Samsung Armani LCDs are available in 46 and 52 inch models. A sign of the economic times: they’ll be sold in Russia before they’re available in the U.S.
